PROJECT OVERVIEW:
Lighting up a mine shouldn’t be rocket science, but it can be tricky. Thus, area lighting is a headache for many of our clients, until they meet us. In this scenario, a local platinum mine needed our help to optimise their area lighting.
THE PROBLEM:
The mine had two existing masts for area lighting, with luminaires mounted on the headgear to also light up the stairway. But unfortunately, this installation of 400 Watt High Pressure Sodium Floodlights simply wasn’t cutting it. What’s more, spare parts for these old luminaires were hard to come by and the masts weren’t exactly easily accessible for regular maintenance. As expected, without regular upkeep, a significant number of luminaires failed, deepening the mine’s lighting woes.
THE SOLUTION:
Our team stepped in, turning the impossible into possible. Our first move: replace the old HID fittings with the BEKA Schréder LEDFLOOD-Maxi 265 Watt Optic 5304-W. Once the installation was done, we conducted a detailed lighting survey to ensure that the new lighting setup is compliant with mining, health and safety regulations. The end result? An energy-saving solution that provides optimal lighting and is easy to maintain in the long term.
