Project Overview:
We believe in building strong relationships with our clients… and their clients! When local contractor Sparcu Electrical Traders in the North-West region approached us to assist with lighting for Marikana Sidings, we were only too happy to assist.
The Problem:
Marikana Sidings needed a better lighting solution for their chrome storage and loading area. The previous installation consisted of old HID technology and inadequate LED fittings – in fact, it’s a great example of how LED really isn’t LED without the right optics. This meant that the area was shrouded in darkness, which made it difficult to spot pedestrians as they are crossing the railway line.
The Solution:
First things first, our team got to work to create a lighting design – which helped us to determine the correct fittings for lighting purposes, as well for budget requirements. Our recommendation? The BEKA LEDFlood Midi 138W Optic 5068 and the BEKA LEDFlood Maxi 276W Optic 5068, mounted back-to-back on the existing 10 meter high poles – 50 to 60 meters apart. The reason was simply because we realised that the client doesn’t need the same lux levels on the stockpile side as on the railway side. The light distribution of these fittings is beautifully uniform, and all things considered, the overall lighting solution meets every single requirement! A win-win for everyone.
