In an ideal world we would take down all the lights and create a new lighting design from scratch – all in one go. But the reality is that your operations need to continue, so we cannot change all the lighting in existing plants from HID to LED at once. Luckily team Mabone has the know-how to get the job done in the most efficient and non-intrusive way possible.
Project Overview: When one of our clients needed to switch from HID to LED lighting, we took it space by space, ensuring complete business continuity.
The Problem: Due to the strain on our electrical infrastructure and grid, it’s important to save power without compromising on safety or lux level requirements according to Mine Health and Safety Regulations. Over and above the power consumption of the 9 400Watt Metal Halide luminaires, the area also needs to be sufficiently lit as this is an area where vehicles and pedestrians are present.
The Solution: The 30m mast originally had 9 Metal Halide 400W luminaires on it, and we switched it out with 9 Beka LEDFlood Maxi 265Watt Optic 5355 fittings. By replacing the Metal Halide Luminaires with the new fittings, we not only saved on power, but the new fitting also allows it to direct the light where it is needed. As seen in the photo, there is zero upward light pollution which promotes the dark skies environmental drive.
